The world has changed a lot over the centuries and popular destinations have come and gone. But travel to Europe has always remained very popular. Why?
Why is travel to Europe so popular? This is no recent phenomena or a passing craze. Indeed Europe has been one of the most popular destinations for travelers over many centuries.
There are several factors that have contributed to this. To start with it seems that the rich and diverse culture that can be found only in Europe is one of the major factors that has attracted all kinds of visitors. From investors looking to make more money to students seeking knowledge and tourists out to have the time of their lives, Europe has remained the favorite place to go or to see for multitudes from all over the world.
Another reason for the heavy traffic if travel through Europe has no doubt been the strategic location of this alluring continent. Europe is right between Asia and America which makes it a natural hub situated in a very high traffic area.
In more recent times, the introduction of the Schengen visa that conveniently allows travel to all the countries in Europe without the need of any other visa has really opened up the continent to visitors and there is plenty of evidence to suggest that it has among other things increased air travel to Europe. Air travel to Europe is especially brisk these days during summer.
Some of the most popular destinations for tourists include France, Italy, Spain and Greece. It is interesting to note that such a large percentage of travelers visit at least three of these countries on one trip. The United Kingdom is very popular for university students. This can be attributed to the wide and diverse range of universities as well as the high standards many of these institutions of higher learning have maintained for many years. London is also pretty popular with business people because it is recognized as the financial capital of the world.
Other European destinations are famous for many different reasons that attract hoards of visitors every year. For instance Germany and its colorful Octoberfest beer festival held every October and Rome which is well known as a food capital.
Those looking for a honeymoon destination in Europe are also spoilt for choice. From the romantic France to the passionate Italy. Or the tranquil islands of Greece, or even London’s bustling city life are all attractive options for newly-weds.
But some insist that the best way of really seeing Europe is on foot and opt to go backpacking through Europe. This is easy to accomplish since many of the countries are joined by a good network of roads, rail and sea. The result is a very cheap but unforgettable holiday across most of Europe.
Yet another reason for the dramatic increase in travel to Europe has been the steep increase of refugees on the continent in recent times. Britain is the most favored destination for asylum seekers. Locals in Europe are understandably quite upset about this new trend but this trend coupled with all the other reasons mentioned means that travel to Europe will continue to be very popular for many more years to come.
